Adam Taylor Captures 2023 Championship

Sun Prairie (September 4th, 2023) - A championship is something every driver dreams of. No matter how easy or hard, they all want to be the best in the end. Adam Taylor fulfilled that dream as he became the 2023 Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Champion. Daniel Robinson picked up the win on the second night of the Fireman’s Nationals.

The championship points battle heading into the night was extremely tight, with 42 points separating Adam Taylor and Todd Kluever. Heading into the night the drama started early, as Taylor had alluded to the fact his car was having issues in the previous night's interview, and those fears came true as the Fusion Engineering midget would have trouble before the night even started. Taylor would go around the pits trying to find one of the other 31 cars he could get into. Good fortune presented itself when the #10C MWR Technologies car, originally scheduled for Jace Sparks, became available.

With the drama behind everyone, Schoenfeld Qualifying would roll onto the racing surface with the FiveOne Motorsports QuickTime Award going to Daniel Robinson with a time of 14.971. Second went to Chase McDermand with a time of 15.068, Brandon Waelti settled in at third, as Kyle Stark and Derek Doerr rounded out the top five.

The Madison Extinguishers Non-Qualifier race would go to Taylor with Kevin Douglas and Jake Goeglein trailing at the finish. Waelti went on to win AutoMeter Heat 1 with Kluever in second and Mark McMahill third. Simpson Race Products and VMS Rod Ends Heat 2 saw McDermand win as Daltyn England and Doerr finishing second and third. Behling Heat 3 was won by Thomas Meseraull, with Stark and quick qualifier Robinson rounding out the top three.

High Performance Lubricants B-Main would look for seven cars to lock into the season finale A-Main. Miles Doherty and Charles Kunz would line-up the front row. Jakeb Boxell went on to win the B-Main with Taylor in second and Doherty third. Harrison Kleven, Goeglein, Kurt Mayhew, and Colton Anderson would also lock into the main event.

There were 25 laps left to decide the 2023 AFS Badger Midget champion. Kluever and Doerr held spots one and two as Taylor would start seventeenth. Doerr got the jump and started to move away from the field as Kluever fell back to fourth. Stark put the moves on Doerr for the race lead on lap five, and held onto it. The yellow flew on lap six as Meseraull came to a stop in turn two. Stark fired off well and drove away from the field as Taylor began making his way towards the front. He made the pass on Waelti stick on lap seventeen for fourth and started chasing down rival Kluever. The yellow would come out once again as Boxell ran into mechanical issues forcing him to stop, as well as Doherty. The restart brought drama as Taylor got past Kluever. The front duo of Stark and Robinson would swap the lead back and forth, before Stark spun going for the lead in turn 3 on lap twenty. The green flag would fly for the last time on the season as Robinson broke away from the field for the victory. Waelti moved into the second place as he passed Taylor in the final laps, Kluever finished fourth, and Doerr fifth.

As a result of Taylor finishing third and Kluever fourth, Adam Taylor sealed the 2023 Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Championship, becoming the 47th different champion in Badger's 88th season.
