Weather Shortens Event at Angell Park
Sun Prairie, WI (August 13th, 2023) - Rain showers ended the night early as the Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midgets visited Angell Park Speedway once again.
Thirty-five cars made the trip to the home of the Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midgets. Championship leader Todd Kluever returned with Adam Taylor, only 23 points behind him. Matt Rechek was there running his #38 car and his #5R modified as well.
The FiveOne Motorsports Quick Time Award went to Todd Kluever, with a time of 14.740. Derek Doerr followed him in second with a 14.798 and Adam Taylor third with a 14.816. The rest of the top five consisted of Parker Jones and Brandon Waelti.
The Madison Extinguisher Service Non-Qualifier heat saw Daniel Robinson take home the win with Kyle Koch and Jordan Nelson behind. AutoMeter Heat 1 was won by Adam Taylor as Matt Rechek and Jack Routson followed him in a chaotic heat. Simpson Race Products and VMS Rod Ends Heat 2 was picked up by Daltyn England with Derek Doerr second and Brandon Waelti third. Behlings Heat 3 went to Zach Boden followed by Parker Jones and Todd Kluever.
The High-Performance Lubricants B-Main saw Kyle Stark and Brian Peterson start on the front row. Kyle Stark took home the win with Daniel Robinson second and Mark McMahill in third. Brian Peterson, Mike Stroik, Trey Weishoff, and Dave Collins Jr all locked into the A-Main as well.
The Advanced Fastening Supply A-Main rolled out with Matt Rechek starting from the pole, and Aaron Muhle alongside him. Rechek got the better start of the top two and sped away from the field. Attention turned to Brandon Waelti who surged through to the second place spot, and then took the race lead on lap five. The yellow flew for a flying Parker Jones as a flat right rear tire slowed him down. The following restart was Waelti’s for the taking as he made a charge from the pack as the #20D of Derek Doerr made his way up to second. The red flag came out on lap seven as third-running Rechek got into the back straightaway wall, rolling his #38 violently. Rechek would get helped out of the car and taken to the hospital for observation. Rain started to fall during the red flag which led to a unique situation. Drivers got pushed into the work area as the Dirt Kings Late Models came onto the track in an attempt to clean off the slippery surface and run their 30-lap feature event. Unfortunately, due to consistent rain, the call was made to end the night before both features could resume.
The Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midgets will face a doubleheader weekend next weekend as Saturday the 19th, they make the trip south to Sycamore Speedway, and Sunday, August 20th, return to Angell Park Speedway for Corn Fest.
