“Budres scores elusive Angell Park victory” “Angell Park season finale next Sunday NSL/IRA & Badger”

Series points leader David Budres captured the “Miller Lite Cornfest Racing Classic” 20-lap Zimbrick Chevrolet of Sun Prairie/Mid-State Equipment Badger Midget Series feature, Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. It was his first career feature victory at the track, after four career second place finishes, including three this season for the Beloit, WI driver.
Brad Greenup jumped into the lead at the start of the race, while Budres passed three cars on the second lap moving into second place. One lap later Budres passed Greenup on the backstretch for the top position.
Despite a caution on the fifth lap, Budres increased his lead over Andy Baugh and Brandon Waelti to a quarter-lap advantage at the midway point.
Budres began lapping slower cars on Lap 13, the same time his car began to misfire. Fourth place running Aaron Schuck stalled with two laps remaining, bunching up the field.
Budres pulled away from the field on the restart. On the final lap Buddy Luebke flipped ending the event. Budres driving the Manic Racing owned Stealth/Fontana No. 31 finished ahead of Baugh, Waelti, Greenup, and Kurt Mayhew.
“It’s great to finally get a win here in such a traditional long standing event, the motor missed a few times but we made it here” commented Budres who became the 21st different Cornfest winner in event history.
The Angell Park Speedway season finale will be Sunday Aug. 30, featuring the National Sprint League & IRA Sprint Car series co-sanctioned event along with the Badger Midget Series.
